On Friday, 11 December 2009, Minister Gerretsen (of the Ministry of the Environment in Ontario, Canada) visited the Boskalis Dolman site in Schiedam. Minister Gerretsen was visiting the Netherlands in connection with a Memorandum of Understanding which he signed recently with Minister Cramer of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment. The MOU confirmed collaboration between the Netherlands and Ontario in a number of environmental areas, including soil remediation. Through the Netherlands Soil Partnership, Boskalis Dolman is active in a number of soil remediation operations in Canada involving soil treatment. Minister Gerretsen stated during his visit how impressed he was by the technology and opportunities afforded by soil washing, and particularly by the Boskalis Dolman approach. After visiting the Netherlands, Minister Gerretsen went on to Copenhagen to attend the United Nations climate conference. More information about Minister Gerretsen's visit to the Netherlands can be found on his weblog.
